Two or more people writing a story, the stage is set and a sort of improvisational acting ensues. You could say your both gods, playing with your creations. Or you could say that your sharing a dream. Remember its not about winning a game, its about story-telling, the exchange of attention, and let us not deny the catharsis and vicarious identification with the characters.

There's a ton of information addressing this online and l will offer links. In brief FFRP, PBP(Play-By-Post), RP, etc is a form of collaborative(with someone else) writing were each participant assumes control over their respective characters in the setting (Which depending on regulation, if any, is controllable. The matter of the setting gets iffy, one reason being characters ultimately are a part of the setting) typically being a (center of everything)main character that's identified with. You post back and forth responding to each others contribution to the story and characters interact, well ideally.
